KINDOW: Sun tracking blinds
Designing a cost effective, low production volume enclosure. Check it out here!
The challenge
In 2015 was asked by Kindow to redesign the aluminium prototype enclosure of their sun tracking blind system. The goal of this redesign was to increase functionality, reduce complexity and reduce cost while making it more fit for medium to low volume production.
The process
Product deconstruction, idea generation, concept generation, iterative design cycles, CAD work, prototyping, manufacturer selection
The team
This project was done as a freelance project. Main stakeholder from Kindow was Sam Kin. Formit BV was the manufacturer of the enclosure.
The result
The resulting product is a snap-fit two-part enclosure with a clamping mechanism that accepts aluminium rails. The enclosure is made out of milled HDPE which is later thermoformed into shape. The design starred in the crowdfunding campaign for the Kindow rail which raised 150,000 Euros.
