Mapiq is a smart-office solution that enables flexible use of your workspace, offering employees a frictionless workday.

From 2017 to 2018, I worked on a second iteration of Mapiq’s connected desk-occupancy sensor that uses innovative, highly accurate capacitive sensing technology to detect users sitting behind or standing at a desk.

The second redesign of this product aimed to reduce installation time and improve the sensing capabilities of the device among others.

I was the project lead for the entirety of the project, supported by Arjan van der Vleuten. Collaborations with SOWNet and Formit were an integral part of the development process.

Version 3 of the Mapiq workplace sensor is designed for low to medium volume production. The snap-fit enclosure is made out of machined HDPE sheets that are thermoformed into it’s final shape. Smart selection of materials and positioning of electronic components turn the front face into an attractive LED light diffuser. The protruding button also allows users to interact with the device manually. Almost 10k units were produced and sold.
